Is Social Media still fundable? How is it used for data mining? What are the new insights on Twitter and marketing? What are the cool new apps out there, and are there any more new ones to create? Has it all been done?
The Panelists
- Bruce Bachenheimer, Professor and Director of Entrepreneurship Lab at Pace University.
Bruce Bachenheimer is a Clinical Professor of Management and the Director of the Entrepreneurship Lab at Pace University. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, primarily in the areas of entrepreneurship, management and strategy. He is also the organizer of the annual Pace Pitch Contest and Business Plan Competition.
He is a member of the Board and past Chair of the New York City Chapter of the MIT Enterprise Forum and has served on the organization’s Global Board. He serves on the Board of Directors & Advisors of LeadAmerica and has served as a consultant to the New York City Department of Small Business Services, the New York City Economic Development Corporation and a variety of new ventures. He has been widely quoted in a variety of domestic and international publications, interviewed on radio and television, and spoke on entrepreneurship for numerous organizations, including the Youth Assembly at the United Nations, Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers, Kairos Society, and the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program and Foreign Press Center.

David S. Rose is a serial entrepreneur, Inc. 500 CEO, and active early-stage investor who has founded or funded over 90 high-tech companies. He has been described by Forbes as “New York’s Archangel” and by Crain’s New York Business as “The father of angel investing in New York.” David is the founder and CEO of Gust, the international collaboration platform for startup financing used by over 45,000 investors and 250,000 entrepreneurs. He is also Managing Partner of Rose Tech Ventures; Founder and Chairman Emeritus of New York Angels; and Founding Track Chair for Finance, Entrepreneurship, and Economics at Singularity University. His new book, Angel Investing: The Gust Guide to Making Money and Having Fun Investing in Startups, will be published by Wiley in May 2014.
- Graham Gullans, Co-Founder of Empire Angels
Graham Gullans is currently the Founding Managing Director of Empire Angels, a member-led NYC Angel group for 35 active young investors. The group focuses on investing in early-stage startups, primarily focusing on Fintech and Mobile. Organizing and hosting monthly educational events for entrepreneurs and founders, Empire Angels also mentor startups prior to fundraising so they can gain insight into the world of Angels, Venture Capitalists, and creating portfolios.
The group has invested in 8 early-stage startups and recently invested in one social media analytics company and a social media startup.
- Jim Tousignant, Founder & CEO of Positive Talk & Executive Vice President, Sales and Business Development, Scivantage
Jim is a dedicated and accomplished serial entrepreneur and business executive with broad experience as both company co-founder and leading sales and business development teams at high-growth internet, software and information services companies.
He has broad public company and private startup experience and a proven track record energizing and leading global sales, marketing and business development teams generating in excess of $500 million in annual revenue. He has significant experience in successfully closing global enterprise deals of $10-300 million with Fortune 1000 companies.
Jim has strong knowledge and skills in software and internet technologies, online information services, finance and capital markets, e-commerce, SaaS, mobile, social media, big data, strategic partnerships, new product innovation and M&A.
- Ajay Yadav, Founder of Roomi
Ajay Yadav’s story: “I had a terrible roommate experience. One summer, I went back home for 3 months and I came back to find all my stuff was gone and the apartment was empty — he had even taken my deposit. Another time I had a roommate who had lots of problems. Last year I was meeting my friends, they were talking about the same things. ‘Oh my god, my roommate does not clean and I have to tell him so many times.'” So he fixed the problem by starting the mobile app Roomiapp.com that relies heavily on Twitter to make it work.
